Violent Crimes
Violent crime effects everyone around it more than most can imagine. And the effects are not only devastating to those it is perpetrated upon, but also to those around it such as children.
And the negative effects of violent crimes can be felt for generations. Many times become who would not normally become violent are so because of the violence around them. We have to break the cycle.
Please do not turn a blind eye to violent crimes. If you see someone being abused, take action. Contact a help organization, the police, someone. Together we can end violent crimes.

California Victim Compensation Program
About them: If you or someone close to you were injured or threatened with injury in a violent crime, California’s Victim Compensation Program may help pay certain crime-related expenses.
The Victim Compensation Program can help pay expenses that result when a violent crime occurs, if there is no other source of reimbursement. Victims of crime who have been injured or have been threatened with injury may be eligible for help.
* The program may assist with costs such as medical and dental treatment, mental health services, funeral and burial expenses, home security, residential crime scene cleanup and emergency relocation.
* Both the victim and their family members or other dependents may be eligible.
* If a person is disabled as a result of the crime, the VCP also assists with wage loss, dependent support loss, job retraining and home or vehicle modifications.
* The program can help pay moving expenses – such as first and last month's rent, deposits and temporary lodging – if a victim needs to relocate for their own safety or emotional well-being.
* Minors who suffer emotional injuries as a result of witnessing a violent crime may be eligible for up to $5,000 in mental health counseling. California law provides this eligibility for witnesses under age 18 even if the witness is unrelated to the crime victim. To qualify, the minor witness must have been in close proximity to the crime.
* The program does not cover property losses, in most cases.
For more information on eligibility requirements or assistance with applying to the program, contact a local county Victim Witness Assistance Program advocate or the Victim Compensation Program directly by calling toll free 1-800-777-9229 or linking to www.victimcompensation.ca.gov.
Coming together, we can make a difference.
When people come together with one common purpose in mind, they can make anything happen. It is with this stubborn philosophy that we as a people have overcome some of the hardest obstacles that have been put in our path.
The time is now, for us to take stock in our lives, and determine if we are doing what is within our power and control, to help those out around us that are having it much tougher.
Each day, our goal should be to have helped one person. No matter how minute the effort, or how grand. We should strive to help one person in some way, to better their lives. And many times its as simple as showing that you care, and might have an insight into what they are going thru and can share in their tribulations and pain.
